Scott Morrison has never told a lie in his public life.. yeah okay

In the past few weeks alone, our Prime Minister, our country's representative on the international political stage, has been accused of lying- twice (publicly that is).

The first time was by French President Emmanuel Macron, who said he knew he was lying to Morrison over Australia's decision to terminate the $90 million submarine deal. The second was an accusation by former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull that Morrison had lied to him on several occasions during their time in politics.

Two very public lying accusations obviously prompted 3AW’s Neil Mitchell to put the hard question to Morrison- had he ever told a lie in public life? It was his response that is the real cracker- “I don’t believe I have, no.” Was that a lie itself?

Again, at an event in Melbourne the Prime Minister was asked about lying in his public life. He responded “That's what I believe to be true.” This reminds me of Tanya repeating “that’s my truth” over and over again during this season of The Block- even though she was straight out lying.

Obviously, we can’t let this one slide- it is time to revisit some of the lies Scotty from Marketing has told while in office. Strap yourself in, friend.

Just this week while releasing a policy for electric vehicles Morrison was asked about his past comments and campaign against electric vehicles. “But I didn’t. That is just a Labor lie. I was against Bill Shorten’s mandate policy, trying to tell people what to do with their lives, what cars they were supposed to drive and where they could drive.” That would be a lie.

On the same topic, Morrison claimed that Labors policy from 2019 was simply created to raise petrol prices and make everyone turn to electric vehicles. This lie was pointed out by Sunrise host Natalie barr- there was no mandate in Labors policy, it was simply a proposed target.

What about the submarine deal that we’ve all heard about? French President Macro has literally said “I don’t think, I know.” when asked if Morrison lied to him after he abandoned a deal and forgot to inform the French. Morrison attempted to make himself look better by releasing text messages, however it only confirmed that 48 hours prior to announcing the termination Macron still had no idea. Smart.

Ah, the vaccine roll out- a shit show from the beginning. In July Morrison made the claim that NSW Premier (at the time) Gladys Berejiklian did not make a request for more vaccines, this was then set straight by Berejiklian- who did in fact make the request.

What about the claim in September that “every effort” was made to obtain more vaccines for Australia? In fact, Pfizer had asked Greg Hunt, health minister for a meeting in June 2020 and offered millions of doses to Australia. Instead of taking the meeting, Hunt offered to pass the meeting on to someone else. Every effort? Yeah okay.

Does anyone else remember the “Shanghai Sam” incident? Morrison was repeatedly called out for referring to Sam Dastyari as “Shanghai Sam” in relation to his personal ties with the Chinese and then tried to backtrack and say he had NEVER referred to him as such. Despite both a video on his Facebook and a Tweet on his profile proving this was a complete lie.

Look, I am getting worked up and need to stop. But these few instances (there is probably more, let's be honest) prove that Mr Morrison has indeed told a lie in his public life. Boom.
